It’s a bluebird day in Breckenridge, an easy place…
It’s a bluebird day in Breckenridge. The sun is shining, the sky is a beautiful blue, and it’s perfectly clear. Skiiers love these kinds of days.
That’s who vacations in Breckenridge: skiiers and snowboarders.
Not a skiier
I am neither. Perhaps if I had tried it earlier in my life, I would enjoy it. But my first – and last — attempt was probably 20 years ago. To my credit, I didn’t fall down, hit anything, or break anything. The experienced skiiers who took me said the icy conditions weren’t ideal, so I guess I did OK. But it wasn’t my thing – at least not at that time in my life.
And now, I’m just too old to even want to start. Joints start to wear out, and putting pressure on them probably isn’t a good idea.
Still, if I were younger — I realize now — I probably would enjoy downhill skiing. Oh, the things you learn about yourself when you take the time to study. Even though I don’t ski, I still feel comfortable here.
My time in Breck
I came to Breck to visit family. On previous visits, I found I really like snowshoeing. We go to a wooded, hilly area we like, and it’s quiet, peaceful and beautiful.
Last time here, we also went Nordic skiing. I spent most of my time trying to stay upright. Finally, I kind of got into a groove, but truly, I spent more time getting up than I did actually skiing. I even fell trying to take off the skis. Maybe we’ll do that again, too, despite my lack of grace.
Breckenridge itself is a lovely little town. You can walk from one end to the other easily. It’s laidback, with cool shops, restaurants and bars. There’s a lot of history here, too, which we learned on a historic walking tour one time. Many of the houses are brightly colored, adding to the charm. It’s an easy place to be – meaning you feel like you fit in, even if you’ve only just arrived or it’s your first time visiting.
Of course, the ski hills tower over everything, providing both the backdrop and focal point for all things Breck. That bright blue sky spotlights the white of the snowy peaks. It’s a beautiful day to be in Breckenridge. It’s good to be back.
Be a Better Writer Tip
Do you use writing as a means of self-discovery?
I do, obviously. You, dear readers, are subjected to my thoughts and meanderings.
Interestingly, I’ve recently discovered that I talk my way through things. This would not be a surprise to anyone who knows me, but I never stopped to think about it. However, if I need to figure something out, or I’m trying to decide something, or even answer a question – What do you think about …? or How should we …? – I find I need to talk it out. This could be literally, if I’m speaking with someone or even to myself, or by writing it out. I found myself writing recently that I was “thinking out loud” as I worked through a process.
Does writing help you think out loud?
